China: The Next Box Office Giant?

According to data from EntGroup, the total box office for urban Chinese movie theaters grew at a CAGR of 32.0% from 2005 to 2009, compared to a CAGR of 4.7% for the United States and 6.7% for the entire world over the same period. China's theatrical business - opening up to the world market - is on a pace (four times the country's overall economic growth rate) to pass the U.S. within a decade to become the world’s leading theatrical market.

Recent data about China's booming theatrical exhibition business is summarized in a Nov. 7th, 2011 blogpost by Rob Cain, an entertainment consultant and producer who has been doing business in China since 1987. Thanks to Tom Garrett for the link.
